PLUMBER
ORIGINAL ENTRANCE
DUTIES: Under supervision, performs skilled manual work in connection with
the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of water, waste, sewage
and drainage pipes, plumbing fixtures and accessories.
REQUIREMENTS: The

training program in plumbing work, or an equivalent combination of experience

THE EXAMINATION will consist of a
written test weighted 40% and a performance test weighted 60%. The minimum passing
score on each test will be 70% unless determined otherwise by the Director of Human
Resources. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test to be eligible
to compete in each subsequent test and to have their names placed on the
eligible list. The written test will assess candidates’ knowledge, skill and
ability in areas such as the principles and practices of the plumbing trade
including tools, fittings, fixtures, venting systems and equipment; reading and
interpreting blueprints and sketches; plumbing code; shop math; safety
principles and practices; and drainage and water distribution systems and
materials. The performance test will
measure a candidates’ skills in performing plumbing
tasks.

APPOINTMENTS will be made from an eligible list with three
categories: A (Exceptionally Well Qualified), B (Well Qualified), and C
(Qualified). Candidates in the highest
category will be given first consideration for appointment. The eligible list
has a duration of three years. New

drug test and an evaluation of the candidate’s ability to meet the specific
physical demands of the job.
